I normally try to take two weeks off at the end of the year (winter
break) so I can spend some time with the family and also regain my
sanity from work. Since I successful acquired the two weeks
this year, I was planning on making a trip out to Death Valley for
the weekend of December 28,29. A simple one nighter to satisfy a
long trip urge. Well, that was the plan at least. That
is until I noticed something funny around Thursday the 26th. I
have a low grade fever. Crap! I'm coming down with
something. Sure enough, by Friday evening it was
blossoming. Influenza strikes again. I spent the entire
weekend trying to cook myself to get rid of the fever. By
Wednesday I was well enough to ride but was lacking in
endurance. Not to mention I was still coughing up undesirable
stuff. It goes to show... the notion that you're in control of
your life is a complete illusion. If I was in control, I would
never get sick. In life, you're just along for the ride.
Come Friday Jan 3rd, I was well enough to head down to the dealer to
finally buy the extended warranty for the GSW. At least now
I'm good until 2019 if something happens to the bike. On that
evening I decided I have to at least put on some miles as a last
milestone for the winter break. It's not Death Valley, but it
sure is better than lying in bed cooking myself to get rid of a
fever. Solo curry run it is...
After all that money, baby's more than well covered for the road.
It's a beautiful day. Southern California being the way it is,
the temps are hovering around 65-67F. Nice. The freeway
is crazy as normal but at least people are somewhat
respectful. Once I hit Soledad canyon road, I'm all by
myself. Awesome! Smooth an twisty. Darn my rear is
out of shape. I can't believe I'm getting saddle sore
already. Dialing the ESA down to soft helps to fix the
problem.
After 70+ miles, I stand alone at one of my favorite whole in the
wall. As always, I'm never disappointed with their curry.
I order menu item 28 ... red Thai curry with coconut juice.
This time I decide to go somewhat healthy and ordered the tofu
instead of meat. The gal taking the order asked me if I was
vegetarian. I said, "No, but I sometimes eat
vegetarian." Here's what 28 looks like.
Gotta have that Thai ice tea.
A little blurry but you get the idea. Bamboo strips, tufo,
and a lot of red curry sauce.
Man this stuff is spicy, but it's so feakin' good. There was
nothing left of the plate nor the drink by the time I finished
texting "Happy New Year!" to friends and family. Being
the awesome place that it is, I tipped them more than what the meal
cost.
Taking the Angeles Forest HWY and Angeles Crest back was a bit
busier than Soledad canyon road, but it's wasn't bad enough to be an
annoyance.
If you're in Lancaster,CA and you're interested in
excellent Thai curry, I highly recommend hauling yourself to this
whole in the wall. You won't regret it.
